I have worked in various settings, including educational and social care for over twenty years. Through these settings, I have gained a high level of understanding and knowledge around many disabilities and conditions including, ADHD, Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, Multiple Sclerosis and emotional and behavioural difficulties, amongst others.
About ten years ago I decided to retrain as a Counselling Psychotherapist and went on to gain an HNDip. in Psychodynamic Counselling, followed by a BA (Hons) Degree in Counselling. As well as running my private practice in Leatherhead, Surrey, I have worked at Redhill Counselling Centre for seven years as volunteer counsellor and as an Intake Assessor. I am a registered member of COSRT (College of Sexual and Relationship Therapy; formerly BASRT). In accordance with their ethical requirements, I regularly attend CPD events to further enhance my work.
Although I have already completed training in couples’ therapy, some years ago I decided I would like to further my skills in this area. I therefore completed a two year a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychosexual and Relationship Therapy, which is accredited through Middlesex University and approved by the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSRT, formerly BASRT) and the National Council for Psychotherapy (NCP). This area of work has afforded me the opportunity to work with clients within Moat House (Doctor’s) Surgery in Merstham, Surrey, where I am fortunate enough to be working alongside highly skilled professionals who work within this field.
The relationship which develops between me and the clients I work with is fundamental to our work together. Clients I have worked with have described me as “friendly”, “approachable”, “open” and “easy to talk to”. I appreciate how counselling can be a daunting prospect, particularly when problems you are experiencing feel very private and personal. Therefore, one of my aims is to make it as easy and comfortable as possible for you to take the first step.
